Erik Jones ready to go one better & strike win No.2 of 2018 having came back to Michigan as a race winner from last month

Erik Jones & the No.20 Joe Gibbs Racing crew are proud of their 5th place performance from Sunday at Watkins Glen.

Now, he has a chance to showcase the hometown crowd of his best talents on the race track.

He came close to winning at Michigan precisely a year ago where he finished 3rd behind Martin Truex Jr. & race winner Kyle Larson.

E. Jones looks confident that he can go one better having demonstrated his first Cup Series win at Daytona last month.

Erik Jones’s Michigan Cup Rewind

Two months ago, he started from his best qualifying position from 8th.

But as heavy rain goes on to shorten the race, Erik Jones didn’t have a chance to give himself much time to move places where he finished 15th.

It’s also not as significant to say that his recent Michigan Cup run is his worst finish out of three Cup starts at the 2.0-mile D-shaped oval.

His debut run looked okay where he started from 14th & finished 13th 14 months ago.

The most memorable highlight out of Jones’ Michigan Cup run was 12 months ago.

From there, he started off 8th before coming home in his best finish of 3rd.

What else did he do any other stints at Michigan International Speedway?

He made his one & only XFINITY Series start during his full-time year two years ago.

Although, he fell only short of a race win having started 2nd & ended up two places down in 4th.

Erik Jones looks excited of what’s it like to race in front of his hometown crowd.

He came here from a solid Top 5 performance a few days ago over at Watkins Glen.

The win may have ended his chances late in the race before Chase Elliott won his first Cup race.

But at least, the speed is there to help Erik Jones challenge the Top 3.

That’s one of the positives he learned at Watkins Glen when his crew members produced the hard work behind the secnes on pit road.

The same effort of work continues to go on week after week.

As long as he can be patient & perform excellent lap times during qualifying then Erik Jones will be good to go in time for race day.
