Club Rugby: Round 7, Game 4 of the 2018 National Rugby Championship: Brisbane City v Canberra Vikings Write-Up

Canberra Vikings took the first five points in the 13th minute where Tom Banks pulled off on the far left into space via the backhand offload from Jordan Jackson-Hope.

Banks’ able to spot Len Ikitau with the quick inside ball where Ikitau’s able to execute the five-point TRY.

It took a while for Brisbane City to try and fight back.

But thirty minutes later, the Vikings made a few defensive errors as Quade Cooper took advantage of the tap and go.

A few of the Viking’s dummies held Cooper down too late on their danger area.

Brisbane City struck one back as they’re two points behind the Canberra Vikings, 5-7.

Tautalatasi Tasi left his feet which held up the Viking’s ruck as Brisbane City concede the penalty.

In return, Wharenui Hawera successfully kicks between the sticks.

As Vikings add the three extra points, they lead Brisbane City, 10-5 at Half-Time.

2nd Half

Brisbane City took the line-out penalty following the Vikings’ inaccurate scrum.

But they too had a collapse on their own through the driving maul with the obstruction.

Once again, Canberra Vikings took the option for the three points.

And it proved successful where Wharenui Hawera easily kicks past the inside the posts.

It took several attempts for Brisbane City to try and get back into the lead.

Thanks to the poor scrummaging from the Vikings, Scott Gale took advantage of the tap & go.

And Gale’s able to help City build some structure and put Brandon Paenga-Amosa on the front foot.

Quade Cooper may not have his best strikes regarding conversions.

But Brisbane City’s still back in the game as they trail Vikings by three points, 10-13.

City pushed on with their counter-attack to try and break up the Vikings defense.

Though, the Vikings built a solid defensive wall to deny a few possible Brisbane City Tries.

In the end, the Vikings held on their possession as Noah Lolesio kicked into touch for the win.

Canberra Vikings will head to Fiji next Saturday for the first semi-final v the Drua.
