It’s flattering to see a report regarding NASCAR wanting to host a race in Australia.
You may revisit back in August where Steve O’Donnell & John Probst jettisoned to The Bend Motorsports Park in Adelaide.
That’s where an official Supercars event took place while the Cup guys took the weekend off.
The meeting consists of a few things that O’Donnell & Probst learned throughout their time in Australia:
- Seeing how the Supercars organizations run their businesses
- Touring The Bend Motorsports Park
- Talking about staging a NASCAR race on their home turf
In the lead up towards this weekend’s Gold Coast 600, a Team Penske NASCAR chassis popped up. The Supercars Team Penske pair of Scott McLaughlin & Fabian Coulthard will demonstrate in front of the fans by having a go in one of these race cars.
Very lovely indeed, Have Fun!!
Will the Gold Coast hold an NASCAR race in Australia?
And now, the Gold Coast has put forward to showcase NASCAR racing in the area.
It may not be a Cup Series round at this stage as the 2019 schedule has finalized for 36 races of the year.
But don’t despair.
Since the XFINITY Series date is open on October 25-27 next year, these drivers would fancy a ride Down Under.
But it’ll only be an exhibition race.
No championship points counted towards the Drivers’ & Owners’ Standings.
The centerpiece will take place at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit.
It has plenty of pit boxes of around 40 which is still visible ever since CART/Champ Car/IndyCar took place from 1991-2008.
These NASCAR teams looking to visit on the Gold Coast would fill them very nicely.
And the race should be held on a Saturday Afternoon around midday local time.
Let’s hope that this dream will become a reality.
If so, it will help boost NASCAR’s fanbase Internationally especially in Australia.
Plus fantastic Prime-Time viewing for those race fans staying up to watch the race in the U.S.
Whoever who brought this idea, bravo to you!!
