Club Rugby: 1st Semi-Final Game of the 2018 National Rugby Championship: Fiji Drua v Canberra Vikings

Andy Muirhead touched down first to add the first five points for the Canberra Vikings.

Lausii Taliauli ran an inside line on the far right side for the Vikings’ 2nd TRY.

There was a mini-fumble by both teams at one point.

But the referee called it to play on with the ball still on Canberra Vikings’ hands.

And Powell assisted Noah Lolesio with the long ball supply to Taliauli who finished the set-piece nicely.

So far, Canberra Vikings lead Fiji Drua by ten points through halfway into the 1st Half.

In the 27th minute, Frank Lomani dived down low with the TRY to help Fiji Drua bounce back.

With Apisalome Waqatabu strong kick, Drua closed the gap to Vikings’ by three points.

Though, Noah Lolesio successfully kicks in the goal to add three more points for the Vikings’ thanks to the penalty.

After poor scrummaging & defense from the Fiji Drua, Joe Powell tapped & play-on.

It didn’t take long for Powell to seek Rob Valetini on the run home with the quick pass for the Vikings’ 3rd TRY.

HALF-TIME: Fiji Drua-7-18 Canberra Vikings

A fumble from Apisalome Waqatabu saw the Drua conceded the penalty.

In return, Tom Banks touched down for another Vikings’ TRY with the help from Joe Powell.

The Vikings have used the opportunity wisely with the fantastic scrummaging.

It may have taken a few resets.

But with the Drua’s constant defensive mistakes, the Vikings tapped & go before they executed the set-piece TRY.

Though, the Drua fought back with the five-point set piece play from Eroni Mawi.

As Enele Malele successfully converts into the goal, Drua now trails the Vikings by nine points, 14-23.

And it didn’t take long for the Fiji Drua to eventually take over the lead from Canberra Vikings.

The home team now lead by 12 points through three quick big scores:

  • Eramasi Radrodro, 59′
  • Aporosa Tabulawaki, 67′
  • Penalty TRY, 76′

FULL-TIME: Fiji Drua 35-28 Canberra Vikings

Although, Noah Lolesio may have scored the consolation TRY for the Vikings.

But it’s too little, too late.

Fiji Drua will now host the National Rugby Championship Final next Saturday.

The home team were 11 points behind at Half-Time before emerging from behind and struck it rich in the end.

With Canberra Vikings out of contention, who will take the 2nd Final spot?

It’s Queensland Country v Western Force.

The game will take place at the Bond University Rugby Club in the Gold Coast.
