NASCAR: 2018 First Data 500 Stage 3, Part 1 Write-Up at Martinsville Speedway

Joey Logano leads the field for the Final Stage of the 2018 First Data 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

Denny Hamlin still runs in 2nd ahead of Kyle Busch.

Martin Truex Jr. first moves into the Top 5 as he gets by Brad Keselowski.

On the other hand, Chase Elliott got by Aric Almirola in 8th.

But a push and shove saw Almirola regain that spot on Lap 290 of 500.

Kyle Busch lost a few spots from the Top 3 in 3rd to now 6th behind Brad Keselowski.

By Lap 333, Truex moved up a few spots before getting around Denny Hamlin in 2nd.

Now, Truex’s chasing Logano for the race lead as he seeks to capture his first short track victory at Cup level.

From 33rd to the lead, Martin Truex Jr. takes over Joey Logano on Lap 361 of 500.

William Byron made contact with the wall at Turn 3 before the next yellow came out on Lap 367.

Byron came back out with rear end damage as the next set of pit stops taken place.

With 127 laps left, the race resumed under green where Joey Logano immediately regained the lead ahead of Truex.

Timmy Hill’s No.66 Toyota flamed up before Hill himself jumped out of the car into safety.

As his engine expired and smoke interfering the race track, a yellow had to come out with 117 to go.

Logano still leads Truex while Brad Keselowski isn’t far behind in 3rd.

Kurt Busch runs in 4th before Denny Hamlin rounds out the Top 5.

Though, another yellow immediately came out within 100 to go.

Kyle Larson made contact with the wall at Turn 3 with smoke from the No.42 Chevrolet.

Unfortunately, it’s a transmission issue via a blown engine as Larson had to end his day early.
