India resumed on 2-22 with Virat Kohli (0) and Murali Vijay (6) in the middle.
Kohli & Vijay quickly fired off with runs on the board.
But the introduction of spinner Nathan Lyon split this stand as well as the dangerman Kohli on 17.
Lyon produced some turn angling in straight and targeting the stumps before Kohli edged straight to Khawaja at slip.
It’s a good call from the Australian skipper in Paine to attack the stumps no matter where you bowl.
Lyon wiped India’s fourth wicket loss where it produced plenty of turn before Vijay half whacked the cover drive & knicked the stumps.
Again, a good strategy from Paine to help Lyon target and execute the off stump as Vijay left on 20.
Although, Ajinkya Rahane & Hanuma Vihari made up lost time with some quickfire runs as they both helped reach 90 for India.
The Australian bowlers worked so hard to try and split the Rahane-Vihari stand before Josh Hazlewood provided the breakthrough.
Hazlewood pitched up again a full-length short ball and straight with some bounce and pace.
For Rahane, he leaned back with minimal foot movement & not enough flat face of the bat to hit past the fielder.
After Rahane left on 30, Rishabh Pant came in the middle and finished off the day on 9*.
On the other hand, Vihari stayed on at 24*.
Stumps Day 4: India 5-112 & needs 174 runs to win.
Great entertainment and advertisement of test cricket to close Day 4 & into the final day of the 2nd Test tomorrow.
India’s batting this session didn’t go as well as expected.
But they’re hoping for a fresh start to help get the job done as Vihari & Pant can bat having done well at domestic level.
As long as both of them are not out, then they have a chance to seal 2-0.
On the other hand, Australia’s bowling and Tim Paine’s tactics worked very well.
One word to get the job done is to Attack.
That’s the one key area Australia got it right regarding the way their fast bowlers & Lyon have done to demolish India’s top order.
If they can Pant & Vihari out, then Australia is on the front stretch to secure their first Test win under coach Justin Langer.
For now, that’s it for a day’s worth of Test Cricket from Perth Stadium as we get to see the outcome of this test match sometime tomorrow.
