Thoughts on Ross Chastain after the demise of the No.42 Ganassi XFINITY Seat

We did cover briefly on the rise of Ross Chastain when he auditioned for three races last year in the No.42 Chevy for Chip Ganassi Racing.

And it proved to be a success when he won at Las Vegas followed by 2nd a race later in Richmond.

After Chastain proved to race fans that talent does matter over money, Ganassi rewarded him a full-time ride.

Chastain was about to hop on the No.42 Ganassi Chevy for all 33 races in this year’s NASCAR XFINITY Series.

But the FBI raid investigation on Chastain’s backer, DC Solar’s HQ and its boss Jeff Carpoff, there’s no other backer out there.

Hence, it’s hard for CGR to support Chastain’s planned NXS season without the adequate funding.

Chastain was about to do bigger and better things this year after this No.42 NXS Team did very well last year.

They’ve won six races as well as finishing runner-up in the Owners’ Championship.

  • Kyle Larson, Las Vegas 1, Chicagoland, Daytona 2 & Bristol 2
  • Ross Chastain, Las Vegas in September 2018
  • John Hunter-Nemechek, Kansas in October 2018

With all the wrongdoing by DC Solar, everyone feels sorry for Chastain and its hardworking men who made this team competitive.

Now, where does Chastain goes from there?

Luckily, he still has a full-time Cup ride this season with a limited-budget organization at Premium Motorsports.

Though, it won’t be easy as Chastain will have to target regular Top 25s as well as the occasional Top 10 to 15 mark.

But will CGR still keep in tabs on Chastain?

If another backer sponsors at least a few races in the No.1 or No.42 Cup Teams & does support Chastain, then there’s still some hope.

However, it will depend if Kurt Busch can lift the No.1 Team back in victory lane which is something this team hasn’t been for a long time.

If not, the door is still open for Chastain to carry on the No.1 Team legacy from 2020 onwards.

Again, Ross Chastain is one of the talented drivers out in NASCAR who produced excellent results on a tight budget.

He does deserve a shot with a top Cup team & prove that his hard work on the race track will help him win races.

It happened before in Las Vegas a few months ago, and sure Chastain can do it again whether it’s with Ganassi or not.

Let’s hope that the DC Solar investigation & demise of the No.42 NXS Team doesn’t crush Chastain’s career.
