2020 Suncorp Super Netball, Week 1: Queensland Firebirds v Sunshine Coast Lightning Game Debrief

Initially, the Queensland Firebirds lead the way by ten points (19-10) by the first quarter v the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Defensively, the Lightning could not arrest the Firebirds’ free-scoring run at times.

Though, the Lightning did bounce back on the run before the break, mainly in the attack.

There’s a few improved intercepts that led to opportunities in the final third.

It helped the Gold Coast-based side eat the Firebirds’ lead on the scoresheet by two points ahead of half-time.

The third quarter looked close with both teams, each struggling in the defense but decisive in the attack.

Both teams have tied up 42-42, all going into the final 15 minutes of the game.

In the end, the Firebirds struggled under pressure defensively.

It’s the ill-discipline that saw less of the attacking play that was visible in the first half of the game.

And the finishing combo communication of Cara Koenen and Steph Wood signaled the Lightning’s comeback in the end.
