The Waratahs won the first 40 at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground v longtime rival the Reds.

They profited the opposition’s lack of finishing despite promising build-up play.

It’s the poor throwing from Brandon Paenga-Amosa that first saw Will Harrison take the early lead between the sticks.

Then the Reds finding issues with the fumbles, lack of support out full & difficulty releasing the ball saw the Waratahs cash in on their errors and turn it into an attacking masterclass.

It helped Jake Gordon capture his hat-trick touch down in the No.9 shirt as good as winning three wickets off the Kookaburra cricket ball.

The two further tries from the pacey duo of Jack Maddocks, and Alex Newsome & the kicking machine of Will Harrison left the Reds scoreless going into the break.

Half-Time: Waratahs 38-0 Reds

The Waratahs continued in its attacking momentum with another TRY from Tom Horton following the Reds going offside.

It finally took some for the Reds to strike its first few points thanks to the James O’Connor cross-kick.

Alex Mafi, who replaced Brandon Paenga-Amosa at Hooker, finally got the line-out right, which helped O’Connor finish Jack Hardy, who scored his first touch down in Super Rugby.

Nothing much had happened towards the final siren when James O’Connor secured the late Reds touch down.

But it’s way too late to come back as the Waratahs proved useful to snatch the home win.

FULL-TIME: Waratahs 45-12 Reds
