India resumed 9/1 after six overs of play last night in the 2nd innings. And a lead of 63 runs with good form from the ball. The home team has work to do to catch up.
The late resurgence may there from Australia in Tim Paine. He scored 75*. And Marnus Labuschagne at 47. But they put footwork-less & high risk shots. That hindered their ability to fall out at 191.
But Australia wasted no time with the bowling still tip top. Pat Cummins caught & bowled Jasprit Bumrah. The night watchman out at only 2 runs for India.
It did not take long for Pat when he captured Cheteshwar Pujara. He bowled very straight. Pujara did not add any movement as Tim Paine took the catch.
Josh Hazlewood shared the workload with Pat Cummins. Same line as Pat by targeting the stumps. Then added some fire to make Mayank Agarwal edge the ball. Another catch there from Paine.
He moved on from Agarwal to Ajinkya Rahane. Josh repeated another same trick with the speed. Ajinkya basically just did a nothing shot that edged to Paine off his bat. India became 15/5 after 12 overs.
It is not just a few of the India Top 6 batsman forced to go. But Virat Kohli is one of them. Pat may have bowled wide to Paine. Virat just reached out for the ball and it went to Cameron Green at point.
That sums up his 4fer for 21 in the 3rd innings from Pat. He let Josh complete the unexpected. Josh threw a great ball into the stumps. Wriddi Saha just flicked leg side without movement. Thanks to Marnus who caught dived this one at square leg.
Ravi Ashwin reached for the ball via the edge off Josh. That edged straight to Paine to put India 26/8. Before Josh claimed Hanuma Vihari for 8. He again bowled straight when Vihari edged to Paine’s gloves. India now 30/9 after 20 overs. Australia now needs one wicket left to seal their 2nd innings card in style.
It may not be another wicket. But Pat gave Mohammed Shami heaps on pain. It is a short ball bounce that targeted his right arm. That would sting him lots without an arm guard. He does wear one as Shami bats right handed. Shami retired hurt as Australia bowled India all out for 36 runs.
The home team only needs target 90 runs to win the 1st Test. Joe Burns and Matthew Wade fired off steadily well. Both got to 15/0 by the dinner break. And worked its way to 70 runs by 17 overs.
Wade may have had to go via the run out after a mix up with Joe on 33. Joe stayed on while Marnus came in. But Marnus got out quick for six runs thanks to Ravi Ashwin. Marnus did not use his movement much when Agarwal took this catch. So Ravi have seen both of their wickets.
But it was not enough to recover as Joe finished off for Australia. In style with a half-ton at 53 not out. What a way to end his recent slump. There is lot of slack around him beforehand. But we glad to see support rally around Joe 100%. And he delivered the chance needed in return.
Australia win by nine wickets here at Adelaide Oval. They now leads the Test series 1-0 v India. The 2nd game will be in Melbourne on Boxing Day (next Saturday).
