Soccer News, Sam Kerr’s rescue & a Mary Fowler wonder goal in extra time helped Matildas hold off Team GB for a semi-final place v Sweden

by

What a game of soccer in the women’s quarter final: Great Britain v Matildas.

Aussies started well with Alanna Kennedy in the first half 0-1.

Although, they were close to being eliminated after the break thanks to an Ellen White double for Team GB.

But Sam Kerr saved Australia from despair just a minute before injury time 2-2, which gave them another chance in extra time.

And they put in an outstanding shift that began a brilliant penalty save from the goalkeeper (Teagan Micah).

Then we saw Mary Fowler who is 18 years old, scored a screamer that broke the deadlock for Australia 2-3 before Sam Kerr once again helped enhance their gold medal hopes 2-4.

Even a hat-trick spell from White wasn’t enough to produce a miracle for Team GB in the end 3-4.

Now it’s the Matildas up against Sweden in the semis, they are one step away from a meeting with either USA or Canada for the gold medal match!
