Tennis News, Roman Safiullin bounced back against Arthur Rinderknech but Ugo Humbert upsets Daniil Medvedev to tie 1-1 with Russia for France

Another interesting match-up throughout Day 2 of the 2022 ATP Cup so far is Russia v France over at Ken Rosewall Arena as Arthur Rinderknech fired off with an easy first set lead for France, but it’s Roman Safiullin who went from a set down after the break that helped him execute the rest & put Russia 1-0.

Score: 2-6 to Rinderknech, 7-5 & 6-3 to Safiullin

What an upset from the 161 seed in Safiullin while 58th ranked Rinderknech just couldn’t wrap it quickly before he was piled with more pressure from the Russian that held him back even further & couldn’t catch up in the 3rd & final set.

That competitive best of three series tie doesn’t stop there where World No.2 Daniil Medvedev battled it out against Ugo Humbert not long later, it was a tight 1st set stage between the two players with Medvedev who just swooped for the early lead.

However, Medvedev began to lose some ground despite that strong start after the break & couldn’t find the finishing touches even in the toughest of rallies as Humbert bites back the Russian in the end with the 2nd & 3rd set victories that put France 1-1 going into the doubles decider.

Score: 7-5 via 7-5 tiebreaker to Medvedev, 5-7 & 6-7 via 2-7 tiebreaker to Humbert

Safiullin and Medvedev are playing now in the doubles tie against a different French pair of Edouard Roger-Vasselin & Fabrice Martin in a bid to wrap up the best of three tie 2-1 for Russia.
